Child & Teen Therapy

Placing the Child at the Center

Is your child or teen experiencing difficulty at home or school? Are you worried about the emotional health or well-being of your child? Childhood and adolescence are foundational and complex times in our growth and development. Throughout my career, I have helped youth to navigate the challenges they face, including:

  • Guiding children through difficulties such as separation anxiety, school-related stress, behavioral issues, divorce, and trauma.

  • Collaborating with parents and schools to create supportive environments that encourage emotional growth and academic success.

  • Conducting group counseling sessions to address a wide range of concerns specific to youth such as positive peer relationships, conflict resolution, and stress management.

As a child-centered therapist, I am dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space where children can express themselves, explore their emotions, and make sense of the world around them. I recognize and value each child as a unique individual. To meet their specific needs and goals in therapy I draw from evidenced-based approaches that nurture all aspects of development: social-emotional, physical, cognitive and personal.

Child & Teen Approaches May Include:

  • Play-Based Therapy: Using play as a natural mode of communication for children, allowing them to express and process emotions, solve problems, and explore their inner world.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Empowers youth to identify and recognize the connection between our feelings, thoughts, and behavior. Skills and techniques are taught to change unhelpful patterns in thinking and responding.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Combines components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with mindfulness practices that help develop distress tolerance, acceptance of emotions and interpersonal skill building.

  • Yoga & Body Work: Techniques that integrate the body and mind connection in the healing process, such as yoga and mindfulness to reduce stress and enhance emotional regulation.

In addition to work with children, teen specific areas of focus may include:

  • Emotional Well-being: Addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, identity exploration, and emotional regulation.

  • Peer Relationships and Social Skills: Assisting teens in developing healthy relationships, navigating peer pressure, communication skills, and conflict resolution.

  • Academic and Career Guidance: Providing support in academic challenges, goal-setting, career exploration, and future planning to help teens navigate the transition into adulthood.
