Child & Teen Therapy

Is your child or teen experiencing difficulty at home or school? Are you worried about their emotional health or well-being? Childhood and adolescence are important and complex times in our lives. Sometimes as parents its hard to know what our kids need or how to help. In my practice I partner with parents to untangle confusion, repair relationships and develop a different path forward. Some issues you might need support with:

  • Guiding children through difficulties such as separation anxiety, school-related stress, behavioral issues, divorce, family tension and trauma.

  • Collaborating with schools and teachers to bolster academic achievement.

  • Encouraging positive peer relationships, conflict resolution, and stress management.

  • Helping your child understand their unique individual needs like sensory sensitivities, ADHD, dyslexia, or Autism

I help children and teens in individual sessions to meet their specific needs and therapeutic goals. I draw from evidenced-based approaches that nurture all aspects of development: social-emotional, physical, cognitive and personal. In addition to individual work, I encourage parents to participate in parent coaching or parent psychotherapy, parent-child sessions and/or family sessions.

Approaches for Individual Therapy with Children & Teens May Include:

  • Play-Based Therapy: Using play as a natural mode of communication for children, allowing them to express and process emotions, solve problems, and explore their inner world.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Empowers youth to identify and recognize the connection between our feelings, thoughts, and behavior. Skills and techniques are taught to change unhelpful patterns in thinking and responding.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Combines components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with mindfulness practices that help develop distress tolerance, acceptance of emotions and interpersonal skill building.

  • Yoga & Body Work: Techniques that integrate the body and mind connection in the healing process, such as yoga and mindfulness to reduce stress and enhance emotional regulation.

In addition to work with children, teen specific areas of focus may include:

  • Emotional Well-being: Addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, identity exploration, and emotional regulation.

  • Peer Relationships and Social Skills: Assisting teens in developing healthy relationships, navigating peer pressure, communication skills, and conflict resolution.

  • Academic related planning: Providing support in academic challenges, goal-setting, career exploration, and future planning to help teens navigate the transition into adulthood.
